It's up to the developer to review the code to determine whether or not a fix is needed to secure the code. With a hotspot, a security-sensitive piece of code is highlighted, but the overall application security may not be impacted. The main difference between a hotspot and a vulnerability is the need for review before deciding whether to apply a fix: Upon review, you'll either find there is no threat or you need to apply a fix to secure the code.Īnother way of looking at hotspots can be the concept of Defense in depth (computing) , in which several redundant protection layers are placed in an application so that it becomes more resilient in the event of an attack. See the example in Figure 4.įigure 4: Area attributes and color picker tool.A security hotspot highlights a security-sensitive piece of code that the developer needs to review. Labels will not be visible for the students but may be useful when reviewing student responses. When setting individual attributes, a text label can also be defined. The options "Selected fill color" and "Selected outline color" will be shown for areas that the user has selected, either by clicking, tapping or using keyboard/tab controls. Area attributes can be set either globally (applied for all areas) or individually (applied only to specific areas).Īuthors can select various characteristics such as fill, stroke colors, and opacity using the color picker tool. In this section, you can configure colors for the hotspot areas. Hotspot is only scored with the Exact match scoring logic. If there is more than one correct response, enable the Multiple Responses option and select the additional hotspot areas which you wish to be additional correct responses. To set the correct answer just simply select the hotspot area which is the correct answer. In the Correct tab, you will see a copy of the question with the drop zones rendered.Insert a value in the Point(s) box to set up a mark for the question.Follow these steps to set up scoring and the correct response: ![]() You can now configure validation for your question. ![]() You can also use Undo and Redo options in the toolbar above the image. To remove an existing area, switch from Draw to Delete mode and click on the area once. You can create as many outlines as needed (see the example in Figure 3). Here, response options are defined for the student by outlining the required shapes. The uploaded image is visible in the Areas section. See the example in Figure 2, below.įigure 2: Hotpsot question basic parameters. Define the image width and height in pixels. Paste a link to the image in the Source URL field. Below you will see the Stimulus Image section. Create a questionĮnter the question stem into the Compose question area. Students will be able to click on the target region(s) to input a response.įigure 1: Hotspot question example. The Hotspot question type allows the author to upload an image and outline target regions (hotspots) within the image, for validation.
